Watch Lakewood’s stories come to life in an Emmy award winning documentary.
For more than 150 years, Lakewood has been a place to honor and celebrate human lives and share precious memories and stories. Now, for the first time, some of these meaningful themes are captured in a documentary.
Lakewood has partnered with Twin Cities Public Television to co-produce the 2022 Upper Midwest Historical Documentary Emmy winner, Remembering Place: A Cemetery Story,
This hour-long, locally produced film delves into Lakewood’s role in the community, shares the stories of families who have generational connections to this place, and touches on a diversity of new offerings and traditions that are being created to help families honor and remember their loved ones.
Highlights include:
- The creation of Lakewood as a “garden” cemetery
- Some of Lakewood’s notable memorials and the diversity of people remembered here
- How the movement toward green burial and the pandemic are affecting cemeteries like Lakewood
- What the future of memorialization looks like and how Lakewood is helping to lead the way
We hope this film inspires ideas, brings back memories and touches hearts. And we hope it captures and expresses why we are so passionate about sharing the special magic of Lakewood—a place where beauty, reverence and meaningful human connection will always live on.
